Violence is learned behavior which is either supported or deterred by one’s surroundings. George Zimmerman is famous because of his use of violence and has, obviously, not received counseling for that act of deadly violence. Sadly, he is a classic example of what can happen without intervention. He can change. However, he is not choosing a non-violence path.
There is help and — as I wrote about last week (or was it two… hmmm time flies) those that complete batterer intervention programs have a large reduction in re-offending rates.
Change can happen…. but his repeated use of firearms is indicative of someone who has not realized the rewards of a life of non-violence. Let’s hope for the sakes of those that he encounters, that he does wake up and take control.
